Mission Statement
Office of Continuing Medical Education Mission
The University of South Alabama College of Medicine Office of CME (USA Office of CME)
delivers high-quality, evidence-based accredited continuing education (CE) for healthcare
professionals across disciplines, with a focus on improving clinical excellence, interprofessional
collaboration and community health. The USA Office of CME aims to effectively meet
the continuing education (CE) needs of healthcare professionals by identifying professional
practice gaps amongst healthcare professionals and developing activities to address
the underlying educational needs across roles and specialties. At the heart of the
USA Office of CME is a commitment to delivering accredited CE that is practical, engaging,
and reflective of the realities of modern healthcare delivery. This includes a focus
on strengthening interprofessional collaboration by fostering effective teamwork and
enhancing interprofessional dynamics, leading to more cohesive patient care experiences
and a supportive healthcare environment.
Expected Results
The USA Office of CME designs activities to enhance the knowledge and competence (skill)
of members of the healthcare team, and raise awareness of new evidence-based advances
with the goal of improving the healthcare team’s performance and, ultimately, patient
outcomes. For each accredited CE activity, USA Office of CME assesses changes in knowledge
and competence. Changes in the healthcare team’s performance are measured and assessed
when the opportunity exists to evaluate learners’ respective clinical practices. The
USA Office of CME is committed to assessing the impact of its accredited CE program
on an ongoing basis through qualitative and quantitative methods to ensure the expected
results are being met.
